We Are
The Joyous Womb

A 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering marginalized women, we have impacted the lives of countless individuals through our transformative offerings.

About our Organization

The Joyous Womb is a nonprofit organization committed to supporting marginalized women in reclaiming their bodies, joy and wellness. Through somatic therapy, education, and doula care, we focus on empowering survivors of sexual assault and postpartum moms. Our mission is to nurture resilience and foster a sense of community among those we serve.

Our Vision

We envision a world where every woman, trans woman, and person with a womb has access to the healing, support, and community they deserve. A world where the womb is no longer a site of unprocessed pain, but a sacred container for joy, creativity, and power. Where survivors of sexual trauma are held with care, and new mothers are never left to navigate the postpartum season alone. When women are free in their bodies, they birth new possibilities for their families, their communities, and the world. The healing of the womb is not a personal matter. It is how we collectively build something better.

Our Philosophy
+ The Science

At The Joyous Womb, we believe joy is not the reward that comes after healing. Joy is the medicine itself. Our work is grounded in somatic and body-centered healing practices, because trauma does not only live in the mind. It lives in the tissues, the breath, the nervous system, and the womb. This is true whether that trauma arrives through sexual violence or through a postpartum experience that left a mother unseen, unsupported, and without the care her body and spirit needed to recover. Research confirms what healers have long known: body-based healing produces lasting results, with 90% of participants in clinical somatic studies maintaining improvement in trauma symptoms one year after treatment. We pair that science with the equally powerful truth that positive emotions like joy actively build a person's physical, intellectual, and social resilience, creating lasting inner resources that support survival and flourishing long after any single healing session ends. Community and sisterhood are not supplemental to this work. They are central to it. We do not heal in isolation. We heal in circle, in relationship, in the presence of one another.

Meet Our Founder

is a birth doula, somatic practitioner, and the founder of The Joyous Womb. Her path to this work was carved by lived experience — she knows firsthand what it means to carry unspoken pain in the body and find her way back to wholeness. That personal journey of moving from surviving to thriving became the foundation for everything The Joyous Womb is built on. She holds a 200-hour RYT, perinatal yoga training, Reiki certification, and somatic and mindfulness-based training, and her work as a postpartum doula grew directly from her own experience with postpartum anxiety after the birth of her child. Maya lives and works in the Lowcountry and is currently completing her debut memoir.
